Fridays are like our Sabbath and we take them pretty seriously. So, we cannot be mean to anybody/thing/place/event. Ever. On Fridays.
So, in the spirit of that, we are going to start with a post on some of the really cool music that has come out of Nigeria lately.
Dbanj is Hawt & You're Nawt!
D’banj is all kinds of hot right now and his album ‘The Entertainer’ is all kinds of hot as well. From the singles that are coasting all over the radio to some of the more esoteric tracks, Don Jazzy, D’banj, and the Mo’ Hits crew deliver unmistakably Nigerian pop and club jams. D’banj comes off as a happy-go-lucky sort and that vibe permeates the whole album and was enough to put a smile even on this cynical face.
Go pick it up and help support the Nigerian music industry.
Kini Big Deal?
Kini Big Deal shot Naeto C fully into the mainstream. It is a very nice party song and got Nigerians all over the world asking each other ‘Kini big deal?’ even though they should also realise that not everyone is as fire proof as the ‘P’ himself. The video is up on youtube, and for those of you who haven’t seen it, here it is below:

The other person really impressing us here at Slap! is M.I. He is really bringing something interesting to the local rap game and is a welcome addition to the mix. Ill Bliss also raised a few eyebrows over here with the Mikeworks remix of Dat Ibo Boy. It is a very good track and should be heard as soon as possible. That’s it for this post, but we might still talk about more music later on today.

I actually like this guy, so it pains me tremendously to have to do this but it does need to be done…
How does a guy go from being one of the best rappers in Nigeria to being a fucking groupie ho/houseboy to the biggest clique in Naija in the space of less than a year? How can a guy work so hard on building a tough guy/hardcore rapper image trying to shake off the huge mistake that was +My Name is Ikechukwu+ and then convert himself to the Mo Hits houseboy the next day? What kind of bloody moniker is E-kills when all he does is stick like glue to the Mo Hits crew?
Dude what the fuck are you doing? In case you haven’t realized it, you cannot build a name and career for yourself by constantly being seen with D’Banj and the Mo Hits crew. There is only room for one superstar in that group and it sure as hell aint you. Far as I know you aint even signed to Mo Hits, wtf happened to Storm? Take a cue from your boy Naeto C and stand on your own two feet. You know the situation must be desperate when dude is always in seen in the background anywhere D’Banj is. If you look carefully you’ll always see that bald head somewhere in the background when you see the Koko Master. I say look carefully because D’Banj be shining so much you gotta squint to see anyone else when he’s around. seriously. I go to Volar several times and every single time, I see them Mo Hits boys doing in big in VIP, popping bottles and shit and there’s Mr. E-Kills holding a glass begging for some bubbly. OK, that didn’t happen exactly like that but shit, I never saw him open or buy a single bottle the whole time I was there… just saying… in fact he looked rather uncomfortable constantly hovering in the background behind them boys… can someone who goes to Volar co-sign?
Then you see him in all their fucking videos… that 2pac song comes to mind… except he’s a guy… I think???
The last straw really for me was the Mo Hits video where dude shows up as the pilot on the jet them Mo Hits boys where riding. How totally and unforgivably lame is that? See for yourself below:
And then to top it off look at him grinning as if yes I’ve finally made it! I don hit jackpot! D’Banj don hire me as him driver!
I also checked out his myspace page and under favorite artists he has the following names: christopher wallace, tupac shakur,sean carter, reggie noble, wyclef jean… Now tell me which one of these guys could you imagine would ever allow himself to be someones driver in a video? Even Redman (Reggie Noble) as crazy as he is never did any such thing and he sure as hell wasn’t chilling in all Wu Tang vidoes or even his boy Method Man’s videos… Nigga this shit aint fucking gangsta! It aint even on hypeman levels thats just some straight dick riding shit. Get them boys nuts out your mouth… damn!
